Tech Stack
Overview
Imperial Corte is a production Django web application built for a barbershop in Kumasi, Ghana. The system replaced manual operations with a digital workflow covering ticket/queue management, service pricing, customer registration, barber commission tracking, staff payroll, financial reporting and SMS communications. It runs on Railway with a PostgreSQL database and is actively used daily by staff and customers on the shop floor. The kiosk mode allows customers to self-check in on a tablet, select services and print their own queue ticket. Managers get a full reporting suite with Excel exports, revenue breakdowns, broadcast SMS to customers and a real-time cashbook. The system handles morning and evening pricing periods, free haircut eligibility, birthday rewards, student discounts and credit transactions.
Challenges
Building a system robust enough for daily live use with minimal downtime. Handling timezone and business day logic correctly on a UTC Railway server for a Ghana-based client. Designing a kiosk interface usable by walk-in customers on a tablet without any training. Balancing morning and evening pricing periods so tickets created in the morning are always charged at morning rates even when paid later. Implementing a cashbook that correctly handles backdated expense entries.
Outcome
Fully deployed and actively used in production. Replaced manual pen-and-paper operations, reduced checkout time significantly, gave the owner real-time visibility into daily revenue, barber commissions, staff payroll and cash position. The client can now download daily Excel reports for backup and review broadcast SMS to customers for promotions.
