Overview

NOLAP Prep is a full-stack web application designed to help Ghanaian university students study smarter. The platform is built around the student's real academic schedule, their courses, timetable, and upcoming exams, and uses AI to personalise their study experience. Key features include AI-generated exams and flashcards from uploaded lecture slides, a smart study planner that reshuffles daily based on upcoming quizzes and tests, live Kahoot-style quiz battles scoped to the student's class, class resource sharing where students can contribute and access slides, past papers, flashcards and exams, daily SMS study reminders via Arkesel with weak topic highlights, a credits and rewards system, study groups, an AI tutor, and a subscription system with free, basic, standard and pro tiers processed via Paystack. The platform launched with 700 users and secured 30,000 GHS in pitch funding.

Challenges

Building a real-time battle mode without WebSockets using a polling architecture. Designing a smart study planner that dynamically reprioritises subjects based on upcoming events. Integrating multiple third-party services (Paystack, Arkesel, OpenAI, Google OAuth) into a cohesive platform. Scoping class resources and battles correctly by school, programme and level.

Outcome

Launched to 700 university students, secured 30,000 GHS in pitch funding, and continues to grow as the go-to study tool for Ghanaian university students.
